The nose is intensely barley'd with pear, apple, apricot, citrus and some subtle, but estery banana. The oak is rather taught but adds sweet vanilla, toast, and toffee (1st fill?) With time a floral top note.
The palate is dense, full and oily with barley and sub-tropical white fruit and apricot. Creamy American oak moves in bringing tofee, coconut and some taught, almost grainy spices and dried fruit. Lovely intensity and although the oak is rather obvious it isn't overpowering. Masked, slightly tannic and toasty finish.
Water brings out more barley, citrus and floral notes. Less intrusive oak and more sweet fruit - apricot, peach and a touch of gooseberry and herbaceous spirit character. The palate possibly shows a tad more oak now and less citrus. Good mouth-feel with softer spices. The citrus finally comes through on the finish, clearing the oak and allowing the barley and herbaceous spirit character to show at the end.
