The nose opens with sweet, winey red fruit and chunky STR spices. Quite tannic but the syrup coated fruit balances. With time some robust vanilla notes appear and although it is heavily cask influenced the Elgin honey and barley can just about be decerned beneath.
The palate opens with the silky, syrupy red fruits and grippy, spicy tannin. Subtle honey and barley on the middle with some good weighty spirit character and a touch of greengage and under ripe banana. Long, spicy and juicy finish with nutmeg and ginger.
Water brings out more of the honeyed distillery character and lessens the STR cask. Still pleasantly full and aromatic. The palate mirrors the nose. Honeyed white fruit and peach now appear. Still long and juicy with a little menthol joining the spices.
