The nose is breezy and salty with a lovely summer freshness. Hints of grass, lime, apricot and dense barley follow along with crystalised rose petal. The oak is very subtle so the youthful, charming spirit takes centre stage.
The palate is extremely alcoholic (there’s a surprise!) and drying with dry/ dusty young wood notes, dark wood spices and liquorice. Really tight and oaky but some beautifully fresh spirit character can just about be detected. Masked finish with a touch of pure, sweet rose petal.
Water opens the nose up beautifully. There’s fragrant barley, apricot, lemon and tangerine. More rounded now and less salty. Maybe it’s a bit simpler now but, it’s absolutely delightful with finally a touch of creamy vanilla. The palate is dense and barley’d with a lovely salty minerality. The spicy oak has been dialled down and like the nose it’s a bit simpler but still absolutely delightful and displaying a lovely balance of spirit and oak. Good length, if still a little drying.
