A stunningly intense nose of raw cocoa bean, dried apricot, plum and raisin. Beautifully balanced rich pot still and lighter, edgy column still notes. Hints of cane sugar, coffee and vanilla oak with time.
The palate is soft and smooth, opening with coffee grains and the rich pot still character of raisin, plum and sweet oak. The column still dried fruit of apple, and sultana follows, along with vanilla and sweet coffee’d tannin. Masked finish but the roasted coffee bean and toasty oak notes linger.
Water brings out orange rind and sweeter dried fruit aromas as well as a slightly botanical herbiness and a touch of cinnamon. The oak is also slightly toastier. The palate is a little sweeter as well and like on the nose a touch of orange rind and tangerine can be detected. Again a little toastier and herbier but longer on the finish.
