Quite subtle on the port aromas which allows the dry, slightly manurey-peat to assert itself. Exquisitely balanced with red berries, crystallised citrus and even a touch of honey lie beneath the mountains of manurey-peat and fishermans friends notes. Actually it’s not very subtle, it’s a monster of a nose…………… and I love it!
The palate is quite earthy and winey to begin with before the herbal, dry peat kicks in. Damn there’s thick slabs of the stuff. However it is far from one-dimensional as the port comes back with some lightly syrup coated red fruit plus hints of grainy, coffee’d tannins. The peat seriously rampages across the middle but there’s huge chunks of bitter chocolate too! Very long with a touch of bog myrtle and coffee’d spices on the finish, but the battle between the grape and the peat continues unabated!
