A soft and pruney nose. Very mature with a robust Cognac-esque dried fruit rancio - raisins, dates, prunes along with a touch of treacle, cinnamon, vanilla cream and sawdusty oak. Hints of liquorice, light tar and herbal peat waft through with an ethereal elegance.
The palate is full and gentle. Again pruney with treacly sherry opening proceedings. Like the nose a touch of vanilla, marzipan and sawdusty American oak follows. Gently spiced and gently peated with tar, treacle, wood smoke, cinnamon and anise. All that tarry, peat dust does make the finish a little dry but the winey dried fruit adds sweetness and balance. Superb length!
