Dense aromas of dark honey, malt and herbal sherry. Hints of prune, walnut and dusty but sweet cinnamon and nutmeg. A touch of liquorice emerges along with more dark honey, violets, fragrant malt and a very subtle coastal note.
Luscious and mature on the palate with dark honey, malt and herbal sherry, just like the nose! There’s a touch more salt and some citric notes, which helps keep the sweetness in check, along with the fairly high level of alcohol! Quite a dry finish, which not a surprise given the abv, but the dark honey returns along with a touch of golden honey.
Diluted the nose is lighter, with the emphasis shifted towards the fragrant barley and vanilla rather than the sherry. Quite heathery now with hints of orange conserve. Still quite sherried on the palate with coffee infused treacle! Water has brought out the grippy tannic spices and a touch of bitter dark chocolate. Lovely length now with orange conserve, violets and not forgetting the treacle! Very impressive.
