A dense, thick, waxy and oily spirit nose. It’s a Linkwood on steroids! Oily, spicy red fruit notes emerge along with apricot, menthol, mint, marzipan, barley and vanilla. Lovely balance of spirit and cask character.
The palate is soft and waxy, opening with barley and mentholated wine red fruit. Hints of slightly bubblegummy apricot appear along with some earthy spice. Grippy middle as the tannins arrive and the mentholated notes build. Good length with a winey, chocolaty, grippy, spicy charred wood finish.
Water lessens the STR notes a little and makes the fruit notes rather juicy and polished. It also emphasises the barley. Its not as grippy and spicy on the palate and the winey red fruit notes are wonderfully juicy and silky. Lovely fleshy, bananary fruit middle and a fresh apple and barley finish. That’s a lovely dram!
