The nose is quite fragrant and nutty with subtle dried fruit and plenty of barley. Really well balanced with a touch of white chocolate, white liquorice, malt, cereal, manuka honey and rye-like herbal notes.
The palate is grippy and slightly tannic, malty and biscuity to begin with. Hints of treacle, barley and walnut follow with some lovely, sweet cinnamon and ginger spice. Quite barley'd and honeyed on the middle with a masked, but mouth-watering finish displaying bitter coffee and hints of winey dried red fruit.
With water the nose is still fragrant with a touch more malt and dried fruit. The barley has become pleasantly dusty. The palate is spicier and maltier with again more dusty barley and tannin. It's opened up rather well to show honeycomb and a succulent juiciness. Long, barley'd and honeyed finish with lingering rye-like herbal notes. Very impressive!
