Strong aromas of Oloroso herbal dried fruit and hints of walnut, almond and mature sherry wood. It seems like there have been plenty of first fill sherry casks used in this release. Subtle notes of coffee, salt, stewed fruit, cigar leaf and late vanilla.
The palate opens with lightly nutty vanilla and raisinated fruit. The Oloroso powers through and the middle is a bit bitter and tannic but a touch of treacle offsets. Hints of raisins, prune and walnut follow. The bitterness builds and is very noticeable on the finish along with some slightly astringent herbal and coastal notes. In conclusion: The sherry is overpowering the mature spirit character but it's still a good whisky..
