The nose is intense, herbal and argricole-esque with a good sweetness of dried fruit to balance and creamy oak notes behind. The oak does become quite dominating and releases loads of charred oak, toffee and butter, but there’s also plenty of ripe, fleshy banana and apricot. It’s big and bold.!
The palate opens with subtle herbal Agricole fruit. The creamy oak, toffee, butter and charred wood notes move in quickly but the spirit is standing up to the oak and some green fruit and under ripe banana appears on the middle. Good length with the oak and spirit battling it out until the end and the oak wins out. In conclusion: It’s probably the most enjoyable English rum I’ve tasted but in saying that I would like to see it with some additional aging and a little more harmonisation of oak and spirit.
